Silone's innovative patented antibacterial card sets a national precedent for practical application.

Staff from Shenzhen Silone Technology Co., Ltd., the project’s collaborating enterprise, explained that urban rail transit single-journey tickets are typically reused in a closed-loop system and undergo regular disinfection. "Single-journey tickets with antibacterial and antimicrobial properties not only address hygiene and infection-control concerns inherent in reusable ticket systems but also ease the disinfection and epidemic prevention burden on departments and organizations responsible for ticket management. This innovation plays a crucial role in safeguarding public health and safety."

Urban rail transit, with its high passenger capacity and fast speeds, has become a popular mode of transportation for city residents. However, in the face of the pandemic, frequent use of single-journey subway tickets has raised concerns among passengers. To address this issue, Nantong Urban Rail Transit Co., Ltd., in collaboration with Shenzhen Silone Technology Co., Ltd., is rigorously controlling the "details" of prevention and control, pioneering innovative research approaches. For the first time, antibacterial products have been independently applied to single-journey rail transit tickets, setting a national precedent by making antibacterial materials standard across all lines of domestically recycled ticket systems. On November 10 this year, Nantong Metro Line 1 officially began operations, with the first batch of 600,000 antimicrobial single-journey tickets rolled out to provide passengers with a safe and reassuring travel experience.

Rail transit is part of the public transportation system. Although new technologies like scanning QR codes or facial recognition have replaced traditional ticket cards, a significant number of single-journey tickets still circulate on the lines. As a key payment medium, these single-use tickets need to be collected and reused repeatedly. During the COVID-19 pandemic, preventing the virus from spreading via ticket cards has become a critical issue. Nantong Urban Rail Transit Co., Ltd. has always prioritized passenger safety and remains committed to serving the public. Working closely with industry partners, the company has creatively developed an antibacterial feature for single-journey tickets, overcoming numerous challenges along the way. Staff from Shenzhen Silone Technology Co., Ltd., the project's collaborating enterprise, explained that urban rail transit single-journey tickets are typically reused in a closed-loop system and undergo regular disinfection. "Single-journey tickets with antibacterial and antimicrobial properties not only address hygiene and infection-control concerns inherent in reusable ticket systems but also ease the disinfection and防疫 (epidemic prevention) burden on departments and organizations responsible for ticket management. This innovation plays a crucial role in safeguarding public health and safety."

Zheng Zhitao, Secretary-General of the Automatic Fare Collection Systems Professional Committee (referred to as the "AFC Specialized Committee") under the China Information Industry Association, stated that ticket cards serve as passengers' proof of travel and are the most fundamental product in urban rail transit fare collection systems, enjoying high usage rates. Even today, the number of single-journey tickets sold remains substantial. According to statistics from the AFC Specialized Committee, over one billion single-journey tickets were sold across more than 40 cities' urban rail transit systems nationwide in 2021. Nantong Urban Rail Transit Co., Ltd. and Silone have jointly launched antimicrobial and antibacterial one-way tickets, a clear industry highlight that sets a new precedent in the urban rail transit ticketing sector for preventing virus transmission.

Compared to traditional recyclable tickets, the specially designed antibacterial one-way tickets feature a surface that Add specialized antibacterial material Demonstrates significant antibacterial and antimicrobial effects The selected antimicrobial material does not affect the original functions of the single-journey ticket card and also effectively inhibits and eliminates hundreds of pathogenic microorganisms, including E. coli and Staphylococcus aureus. According to the antibacterial efficacy test report issued by the third-party testing organization SGS (Société Générale de Surveillance), the antimicrobial one-way tickets demonstrate an antibacterial rate exceeding 99.9% against both E. coli and Staphylococcus aureus. Importantly, their mechanism of action does not lead to antibiotic resistance, offering broad-spectrum bactericidal properties, along with regenerative repair capabilities, exceptional penetration, and long-lasting effectiveness. Additionally, these tickets exhibit notable antiviral effects as well.

This new type of antibacterial card product utilizes an increasingly sophisticated physical sterilization process—specifically, a method that physically disrupts bacterial cell structures, leading to protein denaturation inside the cells and subsequently inhibiting their metabolic functions, ultimately killing the bacteria. This disinfection technique has already been successfully applied across industries such as healthcare, water treatment, and textiles. Silone is focusing on China’s financial and transportation sectors, having developed antibacterial bank cards, antibacterial smart cards, and antibacterial prepaid cards tailored for select domestic banking clients, integrated transportation systems like OneCard, and metro networks.

The antimicrobial single-journey ticket functions exactly like a regular single-journey ticket, going through the same processes—from card production and sales to entry/exit via turnstiles, and finally to recycling. Additionally, these antimicrobial tickets can be properly maintained using dedicated ticket-cleaning equipment. The specialized cleaning solution not only effectively removes surface stains but also boasts inherent disinfecting properties. Notably, this exclusive cleaning agent has no adverse effects on the ticket’s antimicrobial coating—and crucially, it doesn’t compromise the ticket’s antibacterial or antimicrobial performance either.
